BROOKLYN / MONTREAL — CONTEMPORARY ART EVENT
2 cities, 16 institutions, 40 artists
Brooklyn: January 10 — February 2, 2013
Montreal: October 19 — November 17, 2012
ABOUT
Brooklyn / Montreal is the first artistic encounter in more than a decade between Montreal and New York – two leading North American centres of today’s art. Through a series of hybrid exhibitions, the event will highlight these cities’ artistic differences and similarities
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
Following the Paris-Brooklyn Exchange project of 2001, a number of Montrealers began promoting the idea of a similar exchange between exhibition spaces in Brooklyn and Montreal. Among those who pushed the idea in the first place were notably Mark Lanctôt and Hugues Charbonneau who happily are involved today through their current and past affiliations to participating venues the Montreal Museum of Contemporary Art and Division Gallery, respectively. The Cultural Delegation of Quebec in New York also kept the flame alive through the enthusiasm of Fabienne Bilodeau, Jean-Pierre Dion and Jean-François Hould who have all been exceptionally supportive and crucial to making the initiative finally happen. At the top of the list of those whose contribution has been vital, are the staff of Centre CLARK in Montreal, and indeed without their tireless energy and belief the project would still be languishing in the starting blocks. At Centre CLARK, accompanied by the rest of their team, Claudine Khelil and Yann Pocreau have been the real facilitators and masterminds of the logistics necessary to pulling off such a challenge, and the heartfelt thanks of all involved go out to them above all. Warm thanks are due also to all of the sponsors (listed separately) who have provided support and services and/or replied to the many needs of the project. The Brooklyn Borough President, Marty Markowitz, has given authentic interest and encouragement in his characteristically energetic style along with concrete support through his Office of Culture managed by Liz Koch, as well as through Brooklyn Tourism. We are all immensely grateful for the generosity of the funders and partners on the Canadian side (listed separately) and, last but not least, the galleries and artists for their commitment and for the sacrifices they’ve been willing to make in order to guarantee the quality of the project.
